Introduction
Construction companies can offer IT sector firms valuable lessons for establishing a PM-centric organization.
Research Methods Employees and board directors at four large, successful Australian construction companies with a reputation for consistently high project performance were interviewed. The researchers also sat as observers at meetings and compared interpretations with a consultancy team working with one of the companies.
Findings
Construction companies establish project management as the core of normal organizational functioning. They do this using a combination of individual and organizational-level capabilities that place the project manager at the point of convergence.
