Many PMs don't feel their organizations produce or use their knowledge from projects effectively
We need to find practices that work
Research Methods
We interviewed 15 experienced project managers to ask about their knowledge reuse practices.
Findings
Our research suggests that lessons learned are
Difficult to produce at the end of a project
Almost never brought into a project
However, some PMs have created practices to capture and use Lessons Learned during a project
Recommendations
De-emphasize the production of Lessons Learned at the end of the project
Developing a culture of "learning as you go"
Develop processes and tools to capture Lessons Learned during the project
Do you have methods to bring "lessons learned" into your projects?
Do you have methods to create "lessons learned" as the project progresses? How do you use these during the project?
We know how difficult it is to create meaningful lessons learned at the end of the project. Do you agree we should eliminate this expectation? Why or why not?
