Dr. Andrew Gemino presented Understanding Technology Project Risks and Predicting Project Performance at the Vancouver ISSIG monthly meeting on May 13, 2008.
Abstract:
It is difficult to understand how risk factors affect project performance. It is even more difficult to identify techniques for reducing the impact of these risk factors. This talk discussed results from a recent research study involving three chapters of PMI members in Ohio. The results suggested that project managers and sponsors can benefit from separating initial risk factors from risk factors that emerge as the project executes. This talk discussed how initial risks can affect emergent risks and how project managers and sponsors can minimize the damage from "forces of evil" and harness the "forces of good" in their own projects. The session was designed to help project managers and sponsors better understand the risks that their projects face, and to better understand how to more effectively deal with risk factors they will face in their projects.
