Professor Blaize Reich came to academia after 15 years as an information technology (IT) professional and consultant to industry in both Canada and Asia. She earned her PhD in Business (studying the alignment between business and IT strategies) in1993 at the University of British Columbia.
Today, Blaize is a professor of information technology and an internationally respected researcher and speaker. She previously held a prestigious Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Initiative on the New Economy grant to investigate how knowledge-management theory might improve IT project success. She founded and leads the PM Perspectives team as a result of this grant.
Blaize's research interests include topics in project management and governance of the IT function. For the PM Perspectives team, she led the collection of interview data from project managers in North America and New Zealand. She also led research into the knowledge risks inherent in IT projects.
Blaize served as associate dean, graduate programs, for SFU Business at Simon Fraser University from 2000-2003 and was awarded the Canada Trust Distinguished Teaching award in 1997.
Blaize's interest in information technology extends to investing in technology companies started by friends and former students but she says she is still waiting for her big windfall.
